‘How to’ guides

Everyone keen on learning a new craft will want to learn how to. To support you in your journey of discovering your creative skills, we are working with specially selected artisans to produce a series of ‘How to’ guides, which we will be publishing on this site shortly.

The UK Hand Knitting Association’s website also offers guidance on the basics of knitting and crochet.

To achieve our mission (see About us), we are keen to capture and encourage the teaching of handcrafting skills between young and old alike. Kit2Craft will be hosting Knit & Chat sessions in various towns. These sessions will be held in tea rooms, coffee bars and cafes, so that participants, can relax, knit and chat. Further details of session dates and venues can be found in our Events section.

We are also developing a calendar of Kit2Craft Workshops across Britain, details of which can be found within the Departments section on our Homepage. There will be a charge for these workshops but all materials will be included as well as expert tuition. Group size will be limited to ensure optimum learning and enjoyment by each participant. Not only will participants learn a new skill but workshops offer the opportunity to develop new friends within the crafting community.

A selection of Kit2Craft’s range of yarns, patterns and accessories will be available at the Knit & Chat sessions and the Workshops to further inspire you.

We are really looking forward to meeting you at a Knit & Chat session or at one of the Kit2Craft Workshops.

Get knitting for the London Summer 2012 Olympics!

Did you know that Woolsack, working with the Knitting & Crochet Guild, was granted the ‘London 2012 Inspire Mark’ in July 2011 and became part of the Cultural Olympiad?

Take part in Woolsack’s London 2012 Olympics 20,000 Cushions Project. All ages can discover traditional craft skills using British Wool, a sustainable material. Visit www.woolsack.org to find out how you can participate in the London 2012 Olympics by knitting, felting, crocheting or embroidering a cushion cover made purely from British Wool. 20,000 cushions are needed from the people of Britain. The cushions will be given as a welcome gift to each of the Olympic and Paralympic athletes participating in the London 2012 Olympics.

Kit2Craft supports the British Wool Campaign and we are sourcing a range of British Wool yarns and design ideas for our customers.

Our first blog must begin with a big “Thank You” to Twizzlebird Creative www.twizzlebird.co.uk who listened to our description of our vision and developed this website, which we think perfectly encapsulates our vision and philosophy – “Inspire, Create, Promote”.

Of course, we must also mention the brilliant work of Betsan Corkhill at Stitchlinks, www.stitchlinks.com, whose work gathering empirical evidence of the therapeutic benefits of knitting and stitching continues to amaze and inspire us.

Watch this space for more details of a launch in 2012 of a network of therapeutic knitting groups based in hospitals, GP surgeries and the community!!
